Choua P. Xiong is a cultural bearer of HMoob Paj Huam (poetry), a motherscholar, community organizer, and educator residing in the lands of the Menominee and Ho-Chunk Nations (Fox Valley regions in northeastern Wisconsin). She is the eldest daughter to Maiv Ntawm Thoj and Vam Kos Xyooj and holds a Ph.D in Educational Policy Studies from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

As a refugee child, Choua had limited opportunities to gain oral literacy skills from her elders. In 2010, she began writing to practice Paj Huam and reclaim oral literacy. Paj Huam is an oral artform that utilizes freestyle, improvised rhythm to tell stories about everyday life. Her work was featured at the HMoob Stories Project exhibitions, Foundation for the Ruth Arts, John Michael Kohler Arts Center (JMKAC), and California State University-Chico, and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
